The cost of dental treatment is often considered a primary factor when determining whether to pursue a specific service or not. How Does Dental Insurance Work?

Simply put, there are a few key terms that you should know to better understand how dental insurance works:

  • Monthly Premium – This is what you agree to pay each month to have access to your dental benefits.
  • Deductible – This is the amount you must meet each year before your insurance company agrees to pay more.
  • Annual Maximum – This is the total amount your insurance company will pay in a single calendar year.

Each dental plan is different. While many design theirs to have a 100-80-50 breakdown of benefits, others do not. Some may agree to pay for all of your treatment while others will only pay a portion. This is why you must review your policy or have a member of our team do it on your behalf.

There is a lot of fine print associated with dental insurance, which is why some people view it more like a coupon. Once you use all of your available benefits, which are typically good for one year, you are responsible for any additional costs that you incur. However, if you don’t use your benefits before the calendar year is complete, you can lose valuable dollars that end up being returned to your dental insurance company.

Our team at Dental Designs of Maryland will work with you to find the best way to get the most out of your plan and available benefits.

If dental insurance or our Dental Wellness Plan is not the right fit for your unique needs, we also work with various third-party companies that provide flexible financing. This makes it possible to pay off the cost of your care over time instead of all upfront. There are no surprise fees with many of these companies, and you can rest easier knowing that your smile and oral health do not have to wait to get recommended treatment.
